Tata Power SED

For close to four decades, The Tata Power Company Limited, through its Strategic Engineering Division (Tata Power SED), has been a leading private sector player in the indigenous design, development, production, integration, supply, and life-cycle support of mission-critical Defence Systems of Strategic Importance.

During this period, the division has partnered with the Ministry of Defence (MoD), the armed forces, DPSUs and DRDO in the development & supply of state-of-the-art systems and emerged as a Prime Contractor to MoD for indigenous defense production when it secured orders for Pinaka multi-barrel rocket launcher, Akash army & Airforce launchers, medium-range surface-to-air missile (MRSAM) Army & Air Force, Agni launchers to name a few.

Tata Power SED is also the Prime Contractor Data Handling System for Air Defence and Modernization of Airfield Infrastructure-I & II (MAFI) for the Indian Air Force, the 3D Air Surveillance Radar for Indian Naval ships and Combat Management Systems for Indigenous Aircraft Carrier of the Indian Navy.

Tata Power SED has dedicated R & D Centre at Mumbai and Production facility along with an R&D facility at Bengaluru. As a leading domestic player in Strategic Engineering, the Division is now globally recognized for harnessing its “Systems and Engineering” capabilities. It has been appraised at Maturity Level 5 of CMMI® for development v1.3.


Tata Power SED could look at leveraging the existing ecosystem within ELCIA and surrounding industries for supplies in the following key areas:

  1. Electronic modules manufacture under Built to Print drawings
  2. Cable Harness manufacture as per drawings/specs.
  3. Mechanical enclosures and fitments as per Built to Print drawings
  4. Minor design outsourcing and documentation support for Power supplies, computing systems, etc.
  5. PCB schematics and Layouting work
  6. SW resource provision for specific tasks & assignments.
  7. We are looking at outsourcing mechanical activity, who can support us with mechanical fitters/cable harness and electronics assemblers to work at our premises.
  8. Potential activity of outsourcing PCB assemblies, which includes a population of electronic components on to the PCBs. The component list will be issued by TPSED.

Outsource Environment testing of Modules like ESS testing, comprising of Vibration & Thermal Cycling.
