Midday Meals at Govt. Schools

One of the first projects initiated by the Trust was aimed at improving the environment for children in the Govt. primary schools in the vicinity of the Electronics City. A total of 13 such schools were identified. Initially, two schools were covered in 2004 and a total of about 500 children were provided with Midday meals. The wholesome meals were prepared and supplied by M/s Velankani Information Systems, one of the software units in the Electronics City, in a hygienic and clean kitchen. As a direct consequence of this scheme, the attendance at the schools shot up dramatically.

This acted as an inspiration to the teachers. Seeing the success of this small beginning, the Trust extended the scheme gradually over the next two years to cover all the 13 schools totalling 5500 children. In 2007, the Trust sought the assistance of ISKCON in supplying the food as part of their Akshaya Patra Scheme, with the cost of the meals being sponsored by ELCIA Trust. ELCIA Trust is now in the process of further extending the programme to cover more children.
