ELCIA Trust Covid Relief Initiatives

ELCITA, in partnership with its donors, undertook several measures to tide over the Covid-19 pandemic. In 2020, ELCIA Trust focused on providing food for migrant workers by distributing 1,50,000 lunch packets and 6500 ration kits. This year, we felt there was an urgent need to strengthen the health care system, with people getting desperate for hospital beds and healthcare. So, ELCIA Trust set out to make a difference by augmenting healthcare facilities in hospitals.

An appeal was made by Chairman, ELCIA Trust, which received an overwhelming response from companies and individuals, including friends of Office Bearers. The record collections/support was effectively channelized for the above causes through a four-pronged strategy,

  • ELCIA Trust using the collected money to buy equipment as suggested by the donor
  • Donors sponsoring equipment and ELCIA Trust facilitating the donor beneficiary connect
  • ELCIA Trust enabling Opex Support for a needy Hospital
  • ELCIA using the collection to donate equipment, food, ration kits to needy

Creation of 15 bed ICU at Kauvery Hospital Electronics City

ELCITA sponsored 7 Ventilators. Infosys foundation sponsored one ventilator, two portable ventilators, monitors, and other equipment. These were procured on priority within two weeks keeping in mind the emergency situation, and they arrived in time during the peak period of the second wave. In addition, ELCIA Trust facilitated the donation of an Oxygen generator by Walvoil to Kauvery hospital.

ELCIA Trust also procured six ventilators which were donated to needy small hospitals. Three ventilators were sponsored by Fanuc India, two by Momentive, one by Tessolve, and another one by ELCIA Trust. Beneficiaries include Chinmaya Mission hospital, Indira Nagar (one ventilator each by Tessolve and Momentive), ExcelCare hospital, Banashankari II stage (two ventilators by Fanuc India), and Sri Sai hospital Attibele (one ventilator each by Fanuc India and ELCIA Trust).

Oxygen concentrators

The severe shortage of medical oxygen prompted the Trust to explore the possibility of procuring good quality O2 concentrators both within India and outside. With a lot of effort and teamwork, 80 concentrators were procured from the collection made by ELCIA Trust from companies. Some 10L O2 concentrators are being donated to hospitals, and the rest of them (both 5L and 10L) are available for employees and the public on a returnable basis free of charge. This initiative was launched on 10th Jun 2021.

Food and ration kit distribution

During the lockdown, many workers were jobless and needed support to survive. ELCIA Trust took the initiative to distribute lunch packets and ration kits to people who had no jobs, who were in sheds or on the streets.

  • 30,000 food packets have been distributed by ELCIA Trust. This initiative was crowdfunded by benevolent donors that included individuals and enterprises
  • 650 ration kits were distributed to Asha workers, auto drivers, pushcart vendors, and shed dwellers. This initiative was launched byHonorableMLA Mr. Krishnappa. Kits were sponsored by Trust from the money collected from companies
  • 1725 ration kits sponsored by Azim Premji Foundation is being distributed by the ELCITA team to the migrant workers, people living in sheds ad other needy people in the areas suggested by the foundation.

PHC in ELCIA complex

There was an urgent need for a public clinic in Electronics City for both RTPCR testing and vaccination. The district health department has started a PHC in the ELCIA complex in the Creche area on a temporary basis till they find a suitable place for a permanent PHC. This is operational for both RTPCR testing and vaccination as per Government guidelines. This is useful for people around Electronics City. PHC was inaugurated by honorable MLA Mr. Krishnappa in the presence of Deputy Commissioner, Bangalore urban.

Vaccination drive

ELCIA and ELCITA teams coordinated with hospitals and companies to get employees vaccinated in baches both in the companies and in the ELCIA complex. Manipal, Kauvery, and Narayana Hrudayalaya supported the drive. Companies were provided with shuttle buses for the commute of employees to the vaccination site. So far, 10,000 people have been vaccinated through ELCIA / ELCITA, and another 25,000 employees have been vaccinated directly by companies. ELCIA is also creating awareness among employees regarding the criticality of getting vaccinated. IFIM offered their premises for a vaccination drive on the day when 1002 people were vaccinated on a single day by NH.
